Happy 41st Birthday Singapore!

Yesterday (9th Aug) was National Day in Singapore to celebrate independance. This is not actually celebrating independance from the evil british colonialists but it is the day that Singapore got kicked out of the Malaysian federation. This is probably the best thing that happened to Singapore since Stamford Raffles set up a free trade port here back in 1819.
Singapore celebrates this day every year with an Olympic games opening stlye ceremony at the national stadium. One of our friends happens to live in a flat which has a clear view to the national stadium with the city just behind so we went down there to watch. Here are some photos. I've resized the photos so the page dosent take hours to load but you may still need a little bit of patience :)

National Stadium in the centre (it is just below the two floodlight stands) with the city skyline just behind.

Parachutists gliding down to the stadium.

The stadium close up, on the right just above the stadium you can see the last parachutist gliding down with a Singapore flag.

Chinook carrying a huge Singapore flag escorted by two apaches (I think).

The three dots are thee apaches overflying the stadium.

A beautifull sunset.

Fireworks!

Relaxing with friends while watching the ceremony. You can just make out "the bump" :)

Great pictures Luke! Love your fireworks. My only complaint is that a bit too small for spectacular feel. :D

That's excellent! I like the chinook towing the flag. Blogger seems to scale the photos down itself - if you click you get a larger version - so maybe you can upload even bigger ones?
